The Big Step is a Gambling with Lives charity project formed from lived experience of gambling harm. They advocate for a public health approach to preventing gambling harm through campaigning, education and awareness work in football. In 2016, the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation (VRGF) anti-gambling campaign focused on sport betting and the rise in problem teenage gamblers. Their campaign was to alert parents, teachers and society of the alarming statistics related to sport betting and children.

The new anti-online gambling campaign in China is seeking public help to build awareness of gambling-related harms while continuing to inflict pain on gambling operators. A number of Chinese government agencies, including the Ministry of Public Security, announced the launch of a “publicity and education campaign for combating cross-border gambling” on August 13. Harm minimisation campaigns are informed by gaming research, including the Queensland household gambling survey. This survey identifies changes in gambling behaviours, at risk demographics, and assesses impacts in the broader gambling regulatory environment at a community level.
